Ben O’Brien, Award winning CEO and co-founder of StretchSense Limited
Stretch Sense is changing the face of gaming, robotics, motion capture, sports, and sportswear with its soft sensors. Founded in 2012, StretchSense now sells its sensors to over 140 customers in 22 countries.
Ben O’Brien, CEO and co-founder of StretchSense Limited, and the team have tackled the challenges of partnerships, business processes and designing for consumer acceptance in their race to build a successful frontier tech company.
The soft sensor technology emerged out of the University of Auckland, where Ben was completing his PhD. in BioEngineeering. Ben received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Doctoral Thesis in 2010 and a Rutherford Foundation PostDoctoral Fellow. Since then he has won the 2013 Prime Minister’s MacDiarmid Emerging Scientist Prize and the 2015 New Zealand Hi-Tech Young Achiever Award.
