R&D Tax Incentive Changes for 2019 – what does this mean for the software industry?

Ian Skelton, Callaghan Innovation
Ian is helping late stage start-up digital businesses to access the Innovation ecosystem. Focused on de-risking R&D via grant funding, providing capability services that will increase the probability of commercial success when the business scales and connections to those that can add value.
His additional focus on building the NZ SaaS community with a number of initiatives including the annual NZ cohort to San Jose for SaaStr and Southern SaaS 2019 for CEO’s, founders and execs who want to learn how to scale their SaaS business and network with those on similar journeys.
Jason Yang is a Manager with Deloitte, with a particular interest and specialisation with high-growth technology companies, R&D investments and incentives. He assists with and advises a wide range of clients from start-up companies through to NZ and multinational corporate groups on R&D investments and incentives. In particular, he is a keen advocate for the software industry and has been involved in policy discussions with Inland Revenue on a broad range of topics over past years, including most recently in relation to the proposed R&D tax credit scheme.
Roger Ford, New Zealand Software Association
Roger Ford is the President of NZSA and has more than twenty five years experience in senior management and executive positions in the technology sector. From working with a wide range of start-ups, high growth SMEs, and multinational corporations, he has formulated strategies, built companies, and brought digital products & services to market.
His focus is on enabling NZ businesses to provide amazing digital products and services, as well as working with various agencies and institutions to develop a supportive environment for kiwi innovation.
